Almost as ridiculous as the action in these movies is the earnest melodrama cutting throughout the series, and while Dom's relentless monologues about family might have felt repetitive and a tad hollow in the previous movies, here there's an undeniable effectiveness in no small part because of the real-life tragedy which interrupted the movie's production. It's impossible not to watch scenes in which Mia and Dom talk about Brian's dilemma between doing what he loves and settling down with his family without thinking of Walker's death, which rather than cast a dark pall over the film instead makes it a decidedly more emotional experience than many will be expecting. This time, even the cheesiest dialogues (namely those between Dom and Letty) actually hit their marks, and though they're hardly written with much grace, they are perfectly pitched given the extraordinary nature of this movie's production history.
