Game Night Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. The Fantastic Ensemble Cast

New Line Cinema

This is a very well-cast movie, with Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams sharing easy chemistry as the headlining couple, while Kyle Chandler is a lot of fun as Max's high-flying brother Brooks, Billy Magnussen is hilarious as the idiotic Ryan, and Jesse Plemons steals every scene he's in as the awkward, creepy neighbour Gary.

That's not to ignore the contributions of Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris or Kylie Bunbury, who fill out the team of players nicely, while Jeffrey Wright makes a neat, uncredited appearance in the first act also.

Everybody turns in strong work here, hence why it's a shame the six players are separated for a few large chunks of the film. Still, the casting directors deserve a big pat on the back for making the central dynamic work as well as it does.
