It's rare for a film to be delayed indefinitely because of the weather but late last summer, George Miller's mostly exterior set Mad Max: Fury Road was halted before filming could begin because the rain in Australia just wouldn't stop! Speaking to The Daily Telegraph recently, Miller claimed that he hoped, weather permitting, that he could give his fourth Mad Max movie, basically a re-imagining of the post-apocalyptic universe that ended 25 years ago with Mad Max 3: Beyond the Thunderdome - another shot in January;
We will restart pre-production later this year and begin early next yearweather permitting, Weve built the vehicles. Weve designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. Its all ready to go. We just wait,
That cast is one that consists of Tom Hardy in the lead role, which could be his first performance post-Bane, Charlize Theron and possibly Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz and Adelaide Clemens who were all linked to the film last year but were never 100% officially confirmed.
All the contracts are signed. Its a locked-in film. It has been for 18 months now, Ironically, had we been shooting in Broken Hill in January and Februarywhen we were meant towe would have been flooded out.
We were much saddened when the film fell apart last year, if for no other reason than we couldn't wait to see what Tom Hardy was going to do in the leading role. He said at the time about his approach to the film;
Imagine a hungry wolf. Or like when you put a cat in the bath. You grab a cat by the throat and stuff it under the fucking water. You know what it looks like? Thats what Im going to look like. But like a puma. Very hungry and very dangerous. Its imperative. This is the kind of guy whos not well. So I have to create that reality.
Hopefully, this time next year the movie will be filming. Come on God... don't you tell me you don't want to keep the skies clear so you can see it too! Meanwhile, we have to be contact with anticipating Happy Feet 2, the November opening animated movie that just isn't as cool.
