1. Jared Harris Loses Best Actor To Russell Crowe

Though the awards on the TV side were mostly satisfying, there's one major win that just didn't sit right.

The award for Best Actor (Miniseries or TV Film) ultimately went to Russell Crowe for his performance as Roger Ailes in Showtime's The Loudest Voice, despite Chernobyl's Jared Harris being both the odds-on favourite and most deserving nominee.

Contrary to Harris' universally acclaimed performance - in a universally acclaimed show, no less - Crowe's solid work was absolutely handicapped by the middling quality of his show, which received wildly mixed reviews from critics.

This once again felt like the HFPA deferring to star power rather than the actual best performance, though thankfully Harris did get to take to the stage later in the evening when Chernobyl won the Best Miniseries or TV Film award.
