After looking at dozens of actors for the role of the film's protagonist, Marvel surprised us by announcing that Chris Pratt had landed the role. At the time, he was still only known to a wide audience as "that guy on Parks and Rec," a role that really doesn't paint him as the lead in a superhero movie. Yet, he's an inspired choice, and his star has only risen significantly since his initial casting. He just voiced the lead character Emmet in The Lego Movie, and will soon be headlining Jurassic World. He showed in this trailer that he's brought his trademark charm, personality, and comedic timing to the role of Star-Lord, something that's very in tune with the comics. Pratt's also done very well in dramatic roles, appearing in films like Zero Dark Thirty and Moneyball; so he'll be able to hold our attention even when the film goes into darker, more dramatic territory. I think he'll be great in the role, and join the club of other pitch-perfect casting decisions Marvel's made with their leading men.
