7. The Effects Are Glorious

As you might expect from an intergalactic movie starring aliens, a tree baby and a raccoon, effects play a major part in the sequel, starting - no doubt - with the Abelisk attack sequence and ending with the possibility of Ego's true planetary form being revealed, if rumours are to be believed.

And the good news from the screenings is that the effects really deliver. After Doctor Strange changed the visuals game entirely, it's great to hear that James Gunn has kept the bar high.

The seemingly lone dissenting voice (or at least the least hyperbolic reaction) reveals that there might actually be a little too much focus on the effects, to the detriment of story and characters.
