7. When She Came Up With A Way For The DA To Communicate Undetected – The Order Of The Phoenix

Though Dumbledore’s Army was featured in the movie adaptation of The Order of the Phoenix, one of the key things missing was how the group were able to communicate.

Hermione fixed this issue with ease. Despite only being in fifth year, she managed to successfully cast a Protean Charm upon a group of coins.

In practical terms, the effect of this was that whenever Harry changed the serial numbers on his own coin, all the others would change as well, revealing to the other members the time and date of the next meeting.

As well as being a clever bit a magic, the use of fake coins was also smart. Even if Umbridge searched any of the DA members, carrying a Galleon was not at all suspicious.

In this sense, Hermione’s use of the Protean Charm demonstrated her foresight as well as her talent.
