Harry Potter: Fan-Casting The Inevitable Cursed Child Movie
8. Asa Butterfield As Scorpius Malfoy
Why He's Right For The Role
Scorpius is the Malfoy that lacks most of those negative traits his grandfather and father carry in spades.
The actor who plays him must still look a little slimy, a little shady, a little Malfoy, but be able to play the exact opposite of that; the friendly, kind, ever-so-vulnerable young kid.
Butterfield is that guy. Look at his steely eyes, his pale complexion. The only thing missing is the blonde hair, but that's easily changed (Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius, is brown-haired in real life).
He's demonstrated his innocent side in The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, Hugo, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children too - these are all quiet performances delivered with heart, showing he can excel across multiple genres.
All he needs is some hair dye; he's got the experience and track record to prove he'd be a solid Scorpius.
Chances Of It Happening
Remember when Sony and Marvel were searching for their new Spider-Man? Butterfield was in the running, and obviously, he missed out. This indicates he's searching for a major starring role, and it doesn't get much bigger than the Potter series.
On the other hand, he's a very busy kid with numerous films due out over the next few years, and since he's 19 right now, in a couple of years he may lose that youthful look that's key to the part. Time is of the essence!
