Harry Potter New TV Show: 25 Castings That Must Happen

23. Mahershala Ali As Kingsley Shacklebolt

This one would, of course, depend on whether the show keeps the 'British and Irish actors only' policy that the films followed, but that seems unlikely.

Order of the Phoenix member Kingsley Shacklebolt, who actually becomes Minister for Magic after the events of The Deathly Hallows, is a good supporting character in the books but he wasn't in the films much at all. Actor George Harris did well with what he was given, but the only particularly memorable thing about movie Shacklebolt is that one great line ("Dumbledore's got style!"), and one would hope the show will do more with the character.

In terms of casting, Mahershala Ali would be a fine choice for Shacklebolt. He's an all-round great actor who's got the reassuring voice and quiet charisma that Shacklebolt is said to have in the books, and it'd be easy to buy him as a powerful Auror who will one day become the most powerful man in the British Wizarding Community.
