He's POPEYE the CGI animated man, He's POPEYE the CGI animated man...

Avi Arad, who until his 2006 resignation as the CEO of Marvel was actually significant in the industry (he is now producing "Bratz" movies), has told Variety that the freshly announced 100% CGI 3-D animated adaptation of "Popeye";

€œwill cover the themes of friendship, love, greed and life, and focus on human strengths and human frailties.€
Who knew, eh? Sony and their inhouse animation department are giving "Popeye" the same treatment they gave to "The Smurfs"and what Warner Bros. are currently giving to "Yogi Bear"; as a way or reintroducing a once popular cartoon to the current generation of "Shrek" lovers. Unlike "The Smurfs" and "Yogi Bear" which will both feature live action characters, "Popeye" is going to be 100% CGI. According to Arad, we are promised the love interest Olive Oyl, nemesis Bluto and adopted child Swee'Pea as part of the adventure. Mike Jones, a writer who was whacked from Variety last year, is putting together the screenplay. They kindly reminds us that "Popeye" hasn't been seen on the big screen since Robert Altman's bizarre live-action movie from 1980 with Robin Williams.
