20 Horror Franchises That NEED To Come Back

5. Escape Room

2019's Escape Room wasn't a critical hit by any means, but it absolutely cleaned the hell up at the box office, grossing a phenomenal $155.7 million against a mere $9 million budget.

An arguably superior sequel, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, then came out in 2021, though releasing in a far more challenging mid-pandemic environment as it did, it ended up grossing less than half of what its predecessor did on a bigger budget.

Director Adam Robitel was nevertheless enthusiastic about producing a third film, especially considering the wild cliffhanger the second ended on, but presumably due to the sequel's underwhelming box office it never came to pass.

While some fans remain hopeful that Escape Room 3 might still happen, considering how much time has passed and how star Taylor Russell's profile has skyrocketed as of late, a direct follow-up seems incredibly unlikely.

But the elemental concept of these movies, centered around deadly escape rooms, is basically evergreen, and so it's absolutely an IP that should get some sort of soft reboot.
