20 Horror Franchises That NEED To Come Back

14. Hellraiser

Hellraiser is one of the most unique and downright iconic horror franchises of all time, no matter that it's had one hell of an uneven trajectory over the last four decades.

Amid diminishing returns, the franchise went direct-to-video with its fifth installment, 2000's Hellraiser: Inferno, and not a single entry since has managed to secure a theatrical release.

Though the series finally hit the bottom of the well with 2011's embarrassing Hellraiser: Revelations - which was produced for just $300,000 to retain the rights to the IP - the franchise was somewhat successfully resurrected with 2022's David Bruckner-directed reboot.

Above all else, Jamie Clayton's performance as the new iteration of Pinhead proved that the series could survive beyond original Pinhead actor Doug Bradley, though because the reboot was sent straight to streaming we have absolutely no idea how the numbers shake out for a sequel.

Given that there's been no meaningful movement on another Hellraiser in the four years since, it seems unlikely to happen.

But the series' lore and mythology is just too damn rich to leave on the bench, and so this might well be another horror IP worth handing to a hungry young filmmaker with a real vision for a modern update.
