20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made

I Know What You Did Last Summer may not have been critically acclaimed, but it was one of the most commercially successful offerings in the post-Scream slasher revival era.

In fact, sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was released barely a year after the first, though it performed considerably more modestly - if still turning an easy profit against its low budget.

However, the series then laid dormant for almost eight years until 2006's straight-to-video standalone sequel, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, which was panned so thoroughly by critics and fans alike that it sent the franchise into the shadow realm for another 19 (!) years.

In the interim various attempts at remakes and reboots were made, and a TV series was even released on Amazon Prime, but following the success of 2022's Scream "requel," it was decided to give this IP the same treatment.

And so, the confusingly-titled I Know What You Did Last Summer finally released last summer, where it turned a modest profit though fell flat with critics and many fans. (If you've seen it, you probably know why.)

The ending nevertheless teased a wild potential sequel, so we'll have to see if it actually gets made.
