20 Horror Movie Happy Endings Nobody Saw Coming

5. The Fly II

Considering that David Cronenberg's The Fly features one of the most heart-rending endings in the history of the genre, why would anyone expect a happier-than-happy outcome for the sequel?

All the more so considering that the The Fly II - which had no involvement from Cronenberg - begins with the death of original protagonist Veronica Quaife while giving birth to her and Seth Brundle's (Jeff Goldblum) offspring, Martin (Eric Stoltz).

Things don't look too peachy for Martin, who appears to be transforming into a human-fly hybrid just like his father, but unlike Seth, he's able to overcome the mutation process by swapping out his mutated genes for the healthy human genes of the film's villain, Anton Bartok (Lee Richardson).

It's an almost bizarrely happy ending, honestly - Martin is permanently cured of his condition and gets to live happily ever after, all while the antagonist is mutated into the very monstrosity Martin was otherwise destined to become.
