20 Horror Movie Happy Endings Nobody Saw Coming

16. April Fool's Day

Alright, we really should've seen this coming from a film called April Fool's Day, and you probably couldn't get away with it today.

This blackly comedic 1986 comedy-slasher follows a group of college students who are seemingly picked off one-by-one by a serial killer while vacationing on a remote island - the standard fare setup for a movie of this ilk.

Except, we eventually learn that the many elaborate deaths throughout the movie didn't actually happen at all - they were in fact faked by the mansion's owner, Muffy St. John (Deborah Foreman), as a test for her new murder mystery resort business.

All the gore was cooked up with a special effects artist pal and all the "victims" were simply playing parts.

And in one final attempt to screw with the audience, it appears that Muffy actually has her throat slit for real by her friend Nan (Leah Pinsent), only for Muffy to realise she isn't dying and was instead cut with a trick razor.

Again, how did none of us see this coming?
