14. The People Under the Stairs

The People Under the Stairs revolves around a young boy, Fool (Brandon Adams), who teams up with two adult thieves to break into his greedy landlords' house and steal gold coins to fund his mother's cancer treatment.

However, Fool discovers that the landlords, the Robesons, have an army of cannibalistic children in their basement who they stole from their real parents and abused.

It's easy to picture a more cynical version of this story serving up an extremely sad outcome for Fool, but thankfully that's not quite it.

Rather, the Robesons' scheme is revealed to the world, they're both killed in fittingly brutal fashion, and Fool blows up their house, causing their hoarded funds to fly into the sky and rain down upon the crowd outside.

Fool has enough money to pay for his mother's treatment, and the cannibal kids are set free. 

That's an almost impossibly happy ending considering how utterly dire the situation was a short while prior.
