There's a brief mention of Katniss' best friend Gale in the final moments of the Mockingjay book. After Katniss is returned to District 12 with Peeta and Haymitch, she asks Greasy Sae what happened to her former hunting partner. She replies that he has got "some fancy job" in District Two that occasionally gets him on the television. Given the love of Liam Hemsworth amongst certain sections of the Hunger Games fanbase, there's plenty of opportunity to explore what Gale is doing now. He is a character who hasn't been given much to do in the Hunger Games films so far, so it would be interesting to see how he has been affected by the atrocities of the rebellion, particularly those that he may well have had a part in orchestrating. Gale's life after the rebellion is essentially a blank canvas, which leaves plenty of room for Francis Lawrence or another filmmaker to create a story for the big screen.
