With Sinners and Weapons dominating awards season at the start of 2026, it's fair to say it's been a great year for horror movie fans.

But rest assured, there's plenty more still to come, with found-footage flicks, slashers, zomedies, and all other forms of horror in the pipeline for the remainder of the year. Many of these upcoming horror movie releases are based on classic novels, beloved video games, niche web series, Creepypastas, and comics, so it's looking like there's something for every kind of horror fan out there, generally speaking.

On top of the bevy of original horror movies releasing this year, there are also plenty of established franchises set to return, including A Quiet Place and Terrifier, which should keep franchise followers happy too.

There are also more than a couple of original chillers on the way, with 2026 continuing a trend for strong, original horror films striking a chord with critics and audiences - the most recent of which being the Adam Scott-starring Hokum, directed by Damian McCarthy.

In short, it's a pretty great time to be a horror fan, with mainstream Hollywood studios taking risks by merging horror with other styles. The upcoming Clayface from Warner Bros., for instance, blends superhero storytelling with body horror, and it's shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year regardless of genre.

The horror movie fandom has had plenty to celebrate lately, but as you'll see from the following list, there's so much more on the horizon...

10. Passenger

Andre Øvredal has a gift for blending slow-burning tension with unsettling imagery, as he's demonstrated with The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

And his next film, Passenger, promises to continue that trajectory, especially when taking the nail-biting trailer into account. In this night-drive nightmare, a young couple spot a demonic figure on the road ahead. Even after passing the entity, it keeps reappearing in the distance, endlessly taunting and tormenting them mile by mile.

It's a simple setup, but Passenger looks like it was built to get under your skin, especially for people who love a long drive.

Although cinema-goers often gravitate towards long-time franchises and recognised brands, this teeth-chattering indie has all the workings of a hit.

Øvredal also deserves a win after The Last Voyage of the Demeter tanked, so let's hope Passenger gets this underrated director back on top.
