8. Elden Ring

Given that Elden Ring is FromSoftware's best-selling video game, it was probably just a matter of time before Hollywood tried to get in on the action.

And while the difficulties of adapting its narratively thin, vibes-rich world into a movie speak for themselves, Elden Ring has a whole lot going for it behind the scenes.

For one, the film is being produced by A24 and written and directed by the great Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Civil War), who probably couldn't make something half-assed and cynical if he tried.

Plus, Garland has been given a budget of more than $100 million, making it A24's most expensive film by a large margin, and considering how creatively he's fared with lower budgets in the past, he'll surely put the money to great use.

And in addition to the banger cast - including Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Peter Serafinowicz, and Jonathan Pryce - it's also spending more than 18 months in post-production, meaning there should be no excuse for undercooked CGI.
