In a move that looks set to redefine the word incongruity, Disney have announced they are set to finance a picture by actor, director, writer and hip-hop legend Ice Cube. Since taking charge of the studio Rich Ross and Sean Bailey have sought to broaden the scope of its output and alter perception of what it means to be known as a Disney film, and Cubes Chrome and Paint about inner-city car culture has been earmarked as an ideal way to do just that. The script is based on a song of the same name from Cubes 2006 album Laugh Now, Cry Later, the theme and contents of which are deeply out of synch with Disneys traditional image....Although the drama- Cubes first as a director since the modest domestic success of debut feature The Players Club- is still said to be gritty, it is thought that the screenplay will be watered down somewhat as the previous intention for an R-Rated movie where 'young people die in drive-bys' clearly wouldn't work here. Cube has been writing the script with Eva Vives, co-writer of the 2002 film, Raising Victor Vargas. There has been no announcement as to whether Raps most successful convert to movie-acting will make an appearance in front of the camera, though given his natural charisma it would be a disappointment to many if he did not.
