The most memorable scene in the original Independence Day remains the iconic shot of the White House being destroyed. And there's absolutely no way any Independence Day sequel can avoid calling back to that memorable scene. Something else, something very notable, will wind up destroyed. Quite possibly more than one thing. That will sell the movie as much as anything else, just as the wanton destruction of one of America's most recognizable buildings sold the first film. In the end, audiences aren't really asking for much from an Independence Day film. If they get the carnage they desire, they'll go home satisfied.
