2. The Generic, Underwhelming Script

Coming away from The Dial of Destiny, it rarely rises above being a perfectly OK, watchable movie, in large part due to the script flatly failing to recapture the charm of the original trilogy.

Much like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it too often feels like a generic, boilerplate adventure film that just so happens to feature Indiana Jones.

The derring-do, the treasure plundering, and the constant hot-potatoing of the film's central MacGuffin - a potentially world-changing device called Archimedes' Dial - feels so standard and ordinary.

Is it in part a result of Indiana Jones itself being a relic of a franchise in 2023? Perhaps, but the heart, the wit, and the sense of adventure ultimately feel a little lacking, no matter the commitment of the central cast.
