Is it time to Awaken the Dragon?
Enter the Dragon, that classic 70's martial arts movie that propelled Bruce Lee into international stardom is set for a remake or what is more probably better described as a 're-imaging'. No it's not going to just be updated to a modern day setting but they are changing the whole context of the film. It will no longer just be a martial arts flick but it will also have tones of the film noir. The remake titled Awaken the Dragon will mark the feature directorial debut of The Shield producer Kurt Sutter who has also wrote the movie's script which follows a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody underground of the martial art fight clubs. An American actor will be sought out for the role of the FBI agent whilst the Shaolin monk will be played by a real fight star. Variety's article carry quotes from Sutter who claims he wants the movie to look and feel more like Raging Bull than the beautifully choreographed Asian movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. So there you have it, an updated remake of Enter the Dragon. Anyone pissed by this? To me this updated version is enough of a diversion from the plot of the original that I'm totally fine with it. The movie could have done with a different title though.
