11. Turtle Power

It's connection to turtles goes far deeper than sewer dwelling, and the movie acknowledges it with a few cheeky nods.

In Stephen King's novel, an ancient mystical turtle called Maturin is Pennywise's mortal enemy and a key ally for the Losers Club. The creature also crops up in The Dark Tower series as a Guardian of Beams.

Rather than delve into this complex lore, Andy Muschietti subtly alludes to it with nuanced references. That scene where Ben Hanscom ducks underwater when he spots a turtle was inspired by more than the character's love of marine wildlife.

Later in the film, Bill is shown clutching a LEGO turtle while investigating a noise outside of Georgie’s room in the middle of the night.
