James Cameron isn't an artist who likes to do things by halves. He's already dedicated ten years of his life to the Avatar franchise he started working on way back in 2006 and according to the man himself at CinemaCon today, he's just getting started.

Speaking to the media, Cameron revealed he is working on FOUR sequels to Avatar - that ground-breaking, record-breaking technological and once-in-a-lifetime pop culture phenomenon that most movie-makers ignore re-watching when deliberating their Blu-ray shelf.

Avatar was lightning in a bottle back in 2009 but Cameron isn't to be dissuaded and whether we want these follow-ups or not, you couldn't really bet against the 61-year-old helmer from delivering them over the next decade and beyond.

Each film will reportedly explore individual stories but will form a "complete saga", which we previously were told would be four films but now that's been extended to five.

Cameron says Avatar 2 is due in 2018 but that movie has already changed release dates several times and it wouldn't surprise anyone to see it shift again, but follow-ups are tentatively planned for 2020, 2022 and 2023 and beyond.

Avatar 2 will see Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver all return to their respective roles from the original.
