James Gandolfini: His 10 Best Roles

9. Colonel Winter - The Last Castle

Directed by and starring Robert Redford, it is unsurprising that the conflict between the two powerhouse actors made for compelling cinema. Playing Colonel Winter, the commandant of a maximum security military prison who locks horns with inmate Eugene Irwin (Redford) a highly decorated Lieutenant serving a 10 year sentence for violating a presidential order. While the film itself received mixed reviews, with critics claiming that the story simply wasn€™t strong enough, the on screen chemistry of Redford and Gandolfini is impossible to ignore, and manages to carry the feature to a satisfying, if somewhat underwhelming conclusion.
