Jennifer Aniston: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
When she's good, she's good... but when she's bad, she's VERRRRRY bad...
It's fair to say that few would claim Jennifer Aniston to be a great actress, but she is a bonafide movie star in her own right, gaining fame as Rachel Greene on the hit TV show Friends and then graduating to Hollywood by way of a glut of romantic comedies that varied widely in quality.
Though recent years have seen the actress smartly dirty her image up a little, she's still a dependable genre movie lead, as evidenced by her role in Mother's Day, the latest ensemble romantic comedy/drama from the team that brought you Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.
With her share of good and bad performances over the years, it's safe to say that Aniston is an easy subject for a list like this, so she becomes the latest to take on the gruelling gauntlet of 5 Awesome Performances and 5 That Sucked...
5 Awesome Performances...
5. Jennifer Grogan - Marley & Me
In the tearjerking family film Marley & Me, Aniston plays Jennifer Grogan, a woman who, with her husband (Owen Wilson), decides to get a dog as a means of seeing if they are ready to bear the responsibilities of having children.
Marley is a troublesome but totally loveable dog, who proves a frequent foil for the Grogan's plans, though they couldn't think of a future without him. As such, the film examines the family as they grow, and children eventually arrive, while Marley remains the centerpiece around which everything revolves.
This is a role perfectly molded for Aniston's look and ability; she's totally believable as the dedicated mother (despite having no children herself), and her playful interactions with Marley add a lot of charm to the movie.
One might not think it a particularly challenging role, but given the unexpected sting in the movie's tail at the end - where poor 'ol Marley has to be put down - it's one that has Aniston and all others running the gamut of emotions.
