Jigsaw Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

2. The Performances Are Rock Solid

The Saw movies have been pretty up-and-down in terms of performances, and even the classic original had some howlingly wonky moments (especially Cary Elwes hamming it up), but you know what? Jigsaw isn't half bad here.

The casting is totally rock solid throughout, and even though the characters are mostly bland cardboard cutouts, the actors do their best to imbue them with...something. Especially praise-worthy are Laura Vandervoort as Anna, Paul Braunstein as Ryan and Hannah Emily Anderson as Eleanor.

And of course, Tobin Bell once again lending his voice to Jigsaw is an undeniable delight, absurd though it is that he's still around some five movies after John Kramer was killed.
