After a relatively low career in both documentary and feature film production, Jim Kohlberg has clearly been enthused by his first time as director as, fresh from his debut with The Music Never Stopped, he now looks set to adapt the Mary Glickman novel, Home In the Morning. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glickmans debut novel about a Jewish lawyer and several interracial friends across Mississippi from the sixties to the nineties has already been optioned with Kohlbergs name attached as director and will produced by the books original ebook distributors, Open Road Integrated Media Llc. The novel will the first to be the first adapted to film by Open Road from one of their clients electronic books; executive producer Jeffrey Sharp has previously undertaken production duties on Boys Dont Cry and Proof among others, and will be working with Luke Parker Bowles and Peter Rivera. Meanwhile Kohlberg is busy promoting The Music Never Stopped which made its big screen premiere at the Sundance film festival to- broadly- warm reviews. It is being promoted and distributed by Roadside attractions ahead of a March 18th release in the United States. When asked about the upcoming adaptation, the director said the following:
"As a filmmaker, I look forward to tackling Mary's complex vision of love, family and tradition in the world of 1960's civil rights America," Kohlberg tells THR in a statement. "I have a unique affinity for this world, its language and characters and am confident that I'll find the perfect cast to play Katherine Marie and Jackson and Stella Sassaport."
No shooting schedule has been publicised for the project as of yet, however the book is now available in the UK in electronic and paperback form through Amazon.
