3. The Well-Placed Humour

As far back as the first John Wick, the series has had a knowing sense of humour about itself and its own inherent absurdity, and Chapter 4 giddily continues that tradition without undermining the sense of stakes.

Reeves' aforementioned dryness is itself quite amusing - no man has done more with the word "Yeah..." - but there's plenty elsewhere to chuckle at throughout.

Scott Adkins plays a substantial comic relief role mid-way through the movie, donning a fat suit to portray Killa, the head of the German Table. It's the sort of role that could've so easily gone wrong, yet Adkins is clearly having a blast, and that enthusiasm transpires across the scene.

There's also the consistent black comedy amid the movie's grimly violent action, which has a wit and perverse playfulness to it that ensures you'll be left laughing at some of the wildly over-the-top ways people are dispatched by Mr. Wick.
