Joker: Every Easter Egg & Reference We Spotted
4. Excalibur
Of all the movies for Joker to reference, it actually includes a fairly obvious nod to the much-maligned Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
During the climactic sequence where Gotham's clowns riot throughout the city, the cinema frequented by the Waynes has a poster for the 1981 movie Excalibur.
Even ignoring that Excalibur is about a central figure reclaiming a desolate land from the corrupt elites - sound familiar? - Excalibur also appeared on the cinema marquee visible during Batman v Superman's opening murder of the Waynes (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan).
It's certainly possible this is merely a coincidence, especially with the films existing in totally separate continuities, but even so, it's a pretty bizarre - if possibly unintentional - callback to Zack Snyder's much-criticised 2016 blockbuster.
