3. The Totally Ridiculous Action Sequences

Considering this is director Jake Kasdan's first time directing an action movie, it's pretty surprising that the end result is so slick and enjoyable, especially with the evidently huge budget at his disposal.

The set-pieces are knowingly ridiculous and indulge fully in the nutty fun you'd expect from an over-the-top video game, from Karen Gillan's Ruby Roundhouse annihilating a generic biker enemy with a giant flying kick to the face, to Kevin Hart's zoologist Franklin "Moose" Finbar falling from the sky into a helicopter that's tilted completely sideways.

Even the sometimes dubious CGI isn't massively bothersome because it suits the goofy B-movie aesthetic of the film, and the visuals in video games aren't ever consistent after all.

While there's nothing here action-wise that sets the world on fire, it's visually coherent, sharply-edited and overall just a lot of light, easy fun.
