If Jurassic World proves anything, it's that the franchise is going to miss John Williams. Williams, who scored Jurassic Park and The Lost World, helped the Jurassic films become as iconic as they are by coming up with one of the greatest blockbuster themes of all time. Despite what some of Hollywood's biggest directors (he's a regular for JJ Abrams and Brad Bird) seem to think, Michael Giacchino is no John Williams, and boy does it show in Jurassic World. If Giacchino was in any way the new Williams, audiences would come out of Jurassic World at least humming a bar or two - but there is nothing memorable about the film's soundtrack. The only time Jurassic World's score soars is, inevitably, whenever John Williams's music from the previous films gets a retread. Near enough everything about Jurassic World seems to be a pale imitation of the Spielberg films, and it's perhaps nowhere more obvious in Giacchino's John Williams-aping tunes, which never reach the heights of what Williams ever managed.
