10. Is Steppenwolf Really Dead?

In classic superhero fashion, Justice League ends with the whole team banding together to finally overpower main villain Steppenwolf, giving him the overdue beatdown he deserves. Rather than offing the villain in a straightforward way though (there are no easy neck-breakers here), the group actually comes out victorious by using his own Parademons against him.

Because they're fuelled on fear, the beating Steppenwolf receives is enough to turn him into a cowering mess, resulting in his own goons swarming him. It's actually a surprisingly inspired climax (admittedly, one that comes out of nowhere), but with Steppenwolf teleporting away once he starts to become overwhelmed it begs the question: is he still alive and if he is, where did he go?

Multiple times during the film the Old God uses his teleportation ability to quickly get out of danger, but in the finale he ends up sucking all of the Parademons away with him. It's never cleared up whether he was immediately ripped apart or made it through to the other side unscathed, but considering the muted response he's received from both fans and critics so far, it's doubtful that Warner Bros. would be eager to bring him back anytime soon.
