Land of the Lost is leaving it very late, but it will just about be a pre-strike movie as Universal has set a March 2008 start date on the movie which has now been confirmed to have Brad Silberling in the director's chair and Will Ferrell as the lead star (his only pre-strike movie as he now won't be able to commit to any other) says Variety. The movie has a budget of $100 million and is somewhat of a suprising movie for Universal after they just got burned on the comedy movie Evan Almighty. This film is described as a 'comedy event' movie and it had previously been setup with Robert Rodriguez, changed hands to Silberling as speculated on the pre-strike memo... probably because Rodriguez was busy with Barbarella. For Silberling, who was thought to be on New Line's potential list of directors for The Hobbit, this seems like the perfect material for him. He previously brought us Casper in 1995 and Lemony Snickett and a Series of Unfortunate Events in 2004, with a couple of other duds or small Indie flicks along the way. Adaptation by Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas revolves around a disgraced paleontologist, his assistant and a macho tour guide who find themselves in a strange world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey people and reptilian Sleestaks.Never seen the show myself but I like Silberling's work, though I fear this material is along the same light-hearted lines of Lemony Snickett, especially with comedy actor Will Ferrell on board. Did this show really have this theme tune...
