Having Jon Hamm trade in Don Draper's suits, cigarettes, and booze for Joel's Backpack, shivs, and guns would be a pretty wise move for the casting department. Hamm has that unique presence that demands attention and respect, and he could very well excel in his portrayal of Joel. Since Mad Men is nearing its final season, there is a pretty big chance that the actor will be a hot commodity for any potential future projects. It would definitely be a unique character to see him portray because we have yet to see him in a role that requires the traits that makes Joel who he is. I think that it would be a smart choice on Hamm's part to accept the role if it was ever offered to him because it would blast the career of this Golden Globe winner even further into the stratosphere. And truthfully, besides Mad Men, he hasn't really had a great leading role under his belt. This could be the part that changes all of that. Sure, he's had great supporting roles in movies like The Town and Bridesmaids, but winning the role of Joel could allow him to show us a new, darker, violent side that we know he is more than capable of delivering.
