Reports all over the Internet are indicating that we might have a legal movie download service from both Apple and Amazon by the end of next week. Although nothing has been 100% confirmed by either companies as of yet, it seems that an annoucement from Apple is expected on 12th September at the Apple Expo 2006 in Paris. The only stumbling block that has been constant since the very fist mention of legal movie downloads, has been the service cost. Rumours are speculating that Apple will price their downloads at $14.99 for new releases and $9.99 for older titles (but no word yet on what will be classed as an older title). It's going to be very interesting to see how this all pans out. I'm a big supporter of Itunes and their music download system which truly has changed the way I buy music. I like the fixed price system they use and have been extremly impressed that they haven't increased the price at all since day one. Although I do think that $14.99 is very steep for a new movie when you can buy the DVD for just a little more, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. I think the movie industry has finally realised that they shouldn't fight technology but instead should embrace it and implement a easy to use, quality service which customers won't mind paying for over crappy illegal downloads. What do you think guys, would you be interested in downloading movies from a service such as Itunes? Is the rumoured price too high for a movie you will be restricted to watching on your pc monitor? source - cinematical, empire
