26. The Story Influences
According to James Mangold, Logan takes hints from "Unforgiven" (1992), "The Wrestler" (2008) and "Shane" (1953): the ideas explored in all three films - which are all genetically revisionist Westerns and explore the "old gunslinger" story archetype - form the basis of Logan's story arc.

In every case, the stories also explore an ageing character defined by violence struggling with that definition and attempting to put it behind them, but being completely unable to. Fittingly, all end with tragedy too.
