1. The Tone Is Perfect

Soderbergh is pretty much a master of tone at this point, something he re-affirms here with a film that has plenty of fun with its hillbilly heist premise, but also important doesn't dehumanise or mock its subjects in a mean-spirited way.

It's an extremely tough balance to strike, but Soderbergh pulls it off with his usual delicacy, keeping things light for the most part and, on occasion, striking with unexpected emotional resonance.

While many writers and directors struggle to make their films feel fully-formed and on an even tonal keen, Soderbergh makes it look so damn easy every time, and that's one of the many reasons why he's such a keenly regarded filmmaker.
