It's a good opportunity to show off some of the desert landscapes of the movie, sets the stakes for the peril they're in and the kind of plot we can expect (it seems there's at least a bit of a chase movie here, then), and the close up on Jackman shows the emotion he's feeling. This isn't just a regular X-Men movie, but a highly personal one for Logan.
