M. Night Shyamalan's Glass: 7 Plot Predictions

Unbreakable: Episode 2 - Attack Of The Glass.

By Danny Meegan /

M. Night Shyamalan's career is one that's seen both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, and now - after a low period that's lasted since 2004's The Village or 2006's Lady In The Water, depending on who you ask - he's finally back on solid ground.

The Shyamalan-aissance began with The Visit, the director's first collaboration with horror aficionados Blumhouse that led to his second, most recent collaboration, the James McAvoy-led psychological thriller, Split.

And, to the surprise of pretty much everyone in the audience, that film turned out to be a secret-sequel to arguably the director's best film, Unbreakable, a superhero origin story - of sorts - about a man who is unable to be injured and another man who has known nothing but injury his entire life.

Glass is the sequel to both these films, bringing Split's Kevin Crumb, along with Unbreakable's Elijah Price and David Dunn, into the same story. So what can we expect from the third film in this unlikely trilogy?

With the trickster Shyamalan at the helm it's hard to be sure of anything. But considering several clues found in Split and remembering where Unbreakable ended, we've put together a handful of possible plot points the upcoming film might explore.

Inevitably, spoilers for various M. Night Shyamalan films - including Split - follow from here onwards.

7. Kevin Recognises Elijah As "Pure" And Sides With Him

When the movie opens, Kevin/The Beast will be looking to fulfil the goal he mentioned near the end of Split: to rid the world of those who are "impure".

"Impure", from Kevin's point of view, describes a person who has never suffered in their lives, a person who is untouched and has never known pain. This is why he spares Casey at the end of Split; she has been abused by her uncle and has many scars on her body, and The Beast views those who are troubled as exceptional.

And if your goal was to rid the world of impure people who have never suffered, wouldn't your first port of call be to murder the purest person on the planet, a man who can never be hurt and can never become ill?

That man is David Dunn, and he will be Kevin's mission. But in order to get to Dunn, Kevin needs someone with information on the man, someone who's dealt with him before - someone like Elijah/Mr. Glass.

Kevin recognises Elijah as "pure" due to his brittle-bone condition. He's suffered his whole life, being bullied by kids at school and unable to live normally - he's exactly the type of person The Beast would sympathise with. This helps bring the two together.

Plus, Kevin and Elijah both have a common goal; to face David. Kevin wants to rid the world of the pure, and David is the purest of the pure. Elijah views David as his "opposite", as his arch-enemy. Kevin learns that Elijah has a history with David, so enlists his help to take him down.
