When an elderly white lady is robbed and murdered one Sunday morning, 15 year old African-American, Brenton Butler, is fingered as the perpetrator and charged on the thinnest of circumstantial evidence. The film follows Butler's defence team as they go up against the state and attempt to protect him from a terrible sentence. This is not only a courtroom drama, but a demonstration of the corruption within the American justice system and a stunningly candid look at a family's pain as they go through the horrendous process with Butler, he himself only a child.
