Many people dont know, but the crystal that Clark discovers in the barn in the first Superman film was named the Father Crystal. This is the object that lead him to the location of what would be his Fortress of Solitude. Jor-El created it to make sure his son would know about his home planet after its death and to educate him about the human race. In Smallville, this crystal was the Crystal of Knowledge. It had a similar origin, created by Jor-El to ensure that Krypton would endure after its destruction. It contained the knowledge of the universe and was also a tool for Clarks training to become the savior of humanity. On another note, this object is vital to Superman and his story. It lead him to first have contact with Jor-El. It lead him to his refuge in the arctic. It was the first thing he discovered that tied him to his heritage. This should be included in the film.
