After the Dark Elves were reawakened, Malekith used a Kursed Stone to turn Algrim into the powerful Kurse. With his new strength, Kurse went on to sneak into Asgard and cause chaos that would leave Frigga dead and a large chunk of Thor's home in ruins.

Eventually, Thor and Loki attempted to trick Malekith and destroy the Aether, though they failed and Kurse was left behind to fight them as Malekith took off for Earth. Kurse pulled Loki into him, impaling him on a sword the latter had plunged through him, but was defeated when he was sucked into a black hole grenade that Loki had activated.
