Marvel Shoots Down Using CGI Chadwick Boseman In Black Panther 2
Fear not, it appears the King of Wakanda will be allowed to rest.
Following the tragic news earlier this year that Chadwick Boseman had passed away after a silent four-year battle with colon cancer, rumours have recently surfaced to suggest that a digital double of the ridiculously talented actor may be utilised in Black Panther 2.
Thankfully, those rumours have now been well and truly squashed.
In an interview with Clarin, Marvel Studios EVP Victoria Alonso addressed this speculation and outright shot it down.
No, there’s only one Chadwick, and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to the story and what we do to honour this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really. We have to think carefully about what we are going to do, and how, and think about how we are going to honour the franchise.
Black Panther 2 has long been confirmed as happening, with plentiful speculation suggesting that Letitia Wright’s Shuri would take over the Black Panther moniker from her brother in that sequel. Since Chadwick’s heartbreaking passing, those stories have intensified – and it now remains to be seen how Disney and Marvel Studios handle things ahead of Black Panther 2’s tentative May 2022 release.
