Matt Damon Is A Man Of (VERY) Few Words In Jason Bourne
Don't expect the super soldier to speak a lot.
If you like the strong, silent types, you're probably going to love the new Bourne film.
Matt Damon will apparently follow in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2, Henry Cavill in Batman v Superman and Ryan Gosling in Drive by performing a main character with precious few lines of dialogue.
The formerly forgetful spy will have a grand total of about 25 lines of dialogue in the upcoming Jason Bourne, no doubt allowing his fists, gun, rolled up magazines and other assorted props to hand do the talking for him.
The announcement comes courtesy of The Guardian, where it was revealed that him talking probably wasn't the best approach to the character at this stage:
"Well, I’ve done it three times. In the first movie, the Marie Kreutz character is still alive, so Bourne has a sounding board and he’s more confused about who he is and a lot more chatty. Once she dies in the first act of the second movie, it’s really a very lonely character. And we talked about that mostly on the second one. I remember [screenwriter] Tony [Gilroy] writing me an email saying, ‘You do realize what this means? You do realize you’re not going to talk in this movie.’ I said, ‘No, I love that.'”
It's actually a pretty brave move - particularly given that the last Bourne film was panned by some precisely because it didn't have Matt Damon's charm to fall back on. Refusing to let him talk much means they're defying the easy route, and it also means they don't have the expositional safety net of getting characters to explain the gaps away.
Jason Bourne is released on July 29th.
