Wanna see what happened when director Sam Mendes (AMERICAN BEAUTY, ROAD TO PERDITION, JARHEAD, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) decided to make an Indie film in record time, mostly without any movie stars and just some damn interesting actors? The result is a AWAY WE GO, a movie that looks like it would kill at Sundance. But there's none of those irritating directorial gimmicks or overly quirky characters which only movies as well written as JUNO and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE can get away with, and even then, sometimes yoru crying out for the natural and pure. This movie FEELS real. As if Mendes just went out with John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph and just started filming. I can't tell you how excited I am by such a small movie. Maybe it's the Cameron Crowe feeling to it...

AWAY WE GO opens on June 5th 2009 from Focus Features. Now if RACHEL GETTING MARRIED became something of a critics darling with it's naturalism... what price on AWAY WE GO doing the same?
