Maze Runner: The Death Cure Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

A bonkers, bloated finale to the hit YA franchise.

The Maze Runner franchise's concluding entry, The Death Cure, is in cinemas now, and is earning relatively mixed reviews in line with the previous film, The Scorch Trials.

This trilogy capper may not be great cinema, or even great blockbuster cinema, but considering the rather muted hype and dubious January release date, it's surprising that the end result is...really not bad at all.

If you're not sold on the franchise at this point, the finale won't do much to change your mind, but thanks to stronger acting and direction than the ridiculous material frankly deserves, The Death Cure throws the gauntlet down to all other Young Adult franchises and begs them to pull it off better.

Does it stick in the mind long or leave the viewer with much to think about once the credits roll? Absolutely not, but as high-calorie cinematic comfort food, it delivers thrilling action, palpable drama and more than a few moments to chuckle heartily at the silliness of it all...
