The Death Cure once again sees Ball expertly melding practical action with digital effects in a way few blockbusters effectively can. This isn't some hack-for-fire filmmaker cranking out a YA payday in-between other projects, and it really shows.

Though the latter two Maze Runner films have received mixed reviews, that's down more to the script than Ball's work, and it wouldn't be remotely surprising if Marvel or DC knocked on his door in the near-future.

It's staggering quite what he managed to pull off on a mere $62 million budget, so one can only imagine what he might do with double or even triple that figure. Bravo.
