MCU: 10 Biggest Reveals From D23

10. Matt Shakman Will Direct Fantastic Four

Understandably, there was a lot of excitement surrounding Kevin Feige’s D23 presentation, particularly after how incredible the reveals from San Diego Comic Con were. One of the most anticipated segments was that of Phase Six’s Fantastic Four movie.

There was relatively little said about the movie in Hall H, aside from firmly placing it on the largely empty Phase Six timeline, which led fans to thinking they might learn more about it at D23. We may not have gotten any casting news, but the director of the movie was confirmed.

There had been rumours swirling and fans debating who would be the best person to take the lead on bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU, but Kevin Feige finally confirmed that it would in fact be Matt Shakman sitting in the director’s chair.

Though he arguably made a name for himself on Game of Thrones originally, Shakman is far more familiar to MCU fans after directing WandaVision, a piece that certainly had its fair share of family dynamics that could potentially translate to the Fantastic Four. After the Russo Brothers and Destin Daniel Cretton, Shakman is proof that impressing Kevin Feige in the director’s chair can lead to much bigger things.
